I guess you could say, that's how I became The Compostable Designer.

Updated: Oct 11

At university, I chanced upon a project that would later shape my life's work. The task?

To design and make a garment in Australia, free of plastic and zero-waste.

Quite an ambitious undertaking, I admit.

This project forced me to rethink my lifestyle. A compostable T-shirt, without plastic, zero-waste - it was a revelation. This was going to be a game changer.

My design process started at a rather unconventional point - the end of the T-shirt's life. I found myself contemplating the fate of a garment after it's worn out.

  • What happens to it over the next 50 years?

  • What kind of effect does it have on people, on our ecosystem?

  • Would its production harm any animals?

In search of answers, I experimented by composting a T-shirt from my own wardrobe. It was an attempt to understand its decomposition process in a landfill. This experiment formed the foundation of my design concept - The Compostable T-Shirt.

I guess you could say, that's how I became The Compostable Designer.
